Clearance & Visibility

Canopy Lifting

Raising the lower limbs to clear driveways, sidewalks, and roofs without compromising the tree’s health.

The Situation

Are your trees getting in the way? As trees mature, their lower branches naturally droop closer to the ground. This creates a host of problems: limbs scratching the roof of your car in the driveway, forcing pedestrians to duck on the sidewalk, or giving squirrels direct access to your shingles and gutters.

Canopy lifting is the strategic removal of these lower limbs to a specified height. It opens up your view, allows more light to reach your grass, and prevents damage to your home’s siding and roof. However, stripping a trunk too high (known as “lion tailing”) can make the tree top-heavy and dangerous. At Lumberjacks, we lift the canopy with precision, balancing clearance needs with structural stability.

The Lumberjacks Approach

Target Height Assessment

We determine the necessary clearance height based on the obstacle. For example, 8 feet for sidewalks, 14 feet for street clearance (trucks), or 4-6 feet for roof separation.

Precision Lifting

We selectively remove or shorten lower limbs back to the main trunk or parent branch. We make clean cuts at the branch collar to ensure the tree heals quickly and resists decay.

Obstruction Clearance

We specifically target limbs interfering with service lines, chimneys, or security lights. The result is a manicured look that provides clearance while keeping the tree looking natural.
