About the Owner

How a Broke Teen with a Beat-Up Truck Built Chattanooga’s Most Trusted Tree Service Crew

Meet Tyler Schievelhud, Owner of Lumberjacks Tree Service

When you think of a tree service in Chattanooga, you might picture roaring chainsaws and towering pines. What you probably don’t picture is a 17-year-old high school dropout in a gold Mazda 626 with ten bucks to his name and no real plan except to work hard. But that’s exactly where Tyler Schievelhud’s story begins.

Humble Beginnings, Honest Work

Back in 2009, with the economy tanking and construction jobs vanishing, Tyler found himself scraping together odd jobs to stay afloat. A beat-up truck, a few tools, and a relentless drive led him to try his hand at tree work. Turns out he was a natural. And more importantly… he loved it.

“I was okay at a lot of things,” Tyler says. “But I wanted to get great at one thing. That’s how Lumberjacks was born.”

Fast forward to today, and Lumberjacks Tree Service is the go-to crew for tree removal, emergency tree services, pruning, and other tree services in the greater Chattanooga area.

Not Your Average Tree Guy

Tyler didn’t grow up in the woods, but he was raised on the rhythm of machines and sawdust. His family ran a textile mill, and the hum of industry shaped his work ethic early on. He brings that same no-nonsense, get-it-done mentality to every limb he ropes down and every log he mills.

But it wasn’t always smooth climbing. One bad deal with a shady investor nearly cost him everything—his crew, his home, even his pride. “I was sleeping in my truck for a while,” Tyler admits. “But I paid everyone back. Every cent. And I learned some lessons the hard way, like always get a contract.”

It’s that kind of honesty and grit that sets Lumberjacks apart.

What Else Makes Lumberjacks Different?

There are plenty of tree removal companies in Chattanooga, but Lumberjacks isn’t your average crew with a rented chipper and a slick TikTok page. They’re the real deal—trained, insured, and fiercely committed to doing the job right the first time.

“Most of our business comes from referrals and repeat customers,” Tyler says. “And that doesn’t happen by accident. We care. We overcommunicate. And we treat your property like it’s our own.”

Whether it’s emergency tree removal after a storm, clearing a dangerous tree near power lines, or turning storm-downed timber into usable hardwood, Lumberjacks delivers more than services, they deliver peace of mind.

Fitness, Foremen & Future Plans

Outside of the job site, Tyler’s found clarity through fitness. “It’s taught me that hard things aren’t impossible. They’re just a bunch of small hard things stacked together,” he says. That mindset fuels not just his workouts, but his business.

And while he’s focused on growth, it’s not about trucks and payroll. “We’re not here to meet the standard,” he says. “We want to set it and raise it, year after year.”

He’s got dreams of turning Lumberjacks into the Chick-fil-A of tree services in Chattanooga—fast, professional, and oddly delightful to deal with. And if a tiny foreman-in-the-making named Isaac (a former customer’s son who suited up in a toy hard hat) ever shows up one day looking for a job, Tyler says he’s got a spot waiting.

Ready to Schedule Tree Work?

If there’s one thing Tyler wishes every customer knew, it’s this:
“Tree removal isn’t easy. And not all tree services are created equal. The lowest bid might cost you the most in the end. Hire the pros. Ask the hard questions. Your trees and your wallet will thank you.”

So, if you’re in need of a reliable tree service in Chattanooga, know this: Lumberjacks Tree Service isn’t just a name, it’s a promise. A promise to show up, do the work, and leave your yard safer, cleaner, and maybe even a little more inspired.
